If You're Paying for Online Advertising, Stop Right Now!

Every YouTube dingleberry with a ‘magical Ecommerce system, app, tool or service’ will always push you to use PPC (Pay Per Click) advertising. There are two reasons for this.
1. The apps, tools, and services they sell you are nothing more than useless cash vacuums designed to suck every dollar out of your entire life, and they never work. But they know that you’ll make a few sales if you spend a lot of money advertising. Then, you’ll think their systems do work and you’ll keep paying them.
2. When they send you through a link in their ‘systems’ to start your PPC Ads, it’s an affiliate link, meaning that they get paid a commission on every dollar they keep telling you to spend on PPC.
What they don’t tell you, however, is that you’ll spend far more money on advertising than you’ll ever earn in profits from any sales.
Clearly, that’s a very bad business practice.
So, let’s talk about why PPC Ads are a waste of money.
The attraction of PPC advertising, with its promise of paying only when someone clicks your ad, seems pretty tempting. However, beneath the surface is a harsh reality that leads to disastrous financial problems for home-based business owners.
The level of competition on paid advertising platforms like Google Ads and Facebook Ads has turned into a battleground over the years. With an ever-growing number of businesses entering PPC, bidding wars have become the norm.
As each business tries to outbid the others for seemingly valuable ad placements, the cost per click skyrockets. While this can work for big corporations that spend hundreds of millions of dollars on advertising per year, it’s a serious problem for home-based Ecommerce business owners.
When you own a home-based business, you’re operating on a limited budget. The cost-effectiveness of PPC just isn’t there when you can only do it on a limited scale. When you end up spending $100 on ads to make $50 in profit (which WILL happen), you’re throwing money away, plain and simple.
The Goofy Gurus on YouTube are always pushing paid social media advertising as well, for the same reason they push PPC. It's not hard for them to get people psyched up about it; the idea of reaching a vast audience can seem very exciting.
However, there’s something else they’re not telling you. Beneath the surface of social media advertising lurks a fallacy that will drain your social media marketing budget and leave you deep in a financial hole.
Paid social media advertising is useless, because users on social media despise interruptions when they’re in their social media apps and tools. I do. Don’t you?
While the potential reach of social media platforms is undeniably vast, the reality is that most people are actively looking for ways to avoid or ignore social media advertising content. The constant barrage of promoted posts and sponsored content has led to an environment where users have gotten really good at simply tuning out anything that resembles an advertisement.
This aversion to ads has become so serious that a tremendous number of people are resorting resort to ad-blockers to cleanse their social media feeds of these unwanted interruptions.
In 2023, more than 42% of all social media users are using ad blockers. And those are only the more tech-savvy people. Most of those who aren’t aware of ad blockers are simply ignoring or skipping over advertising on social media.
As a result, the conversion rate of paid social media advertising is dismal, and the return on investment for the home-based business owner will be underwater, meaning you’ll spend more than you’ll earn.
So, what do you do to get found online?
There’s an absolute marketing powerhouse that has been in play in online marketing since Google made a major change to its search engine by introducing AI in 2011, and it grows more and more powerful by the day.
This is the art of content marketing.
Content marketing has a unique strength: the ability to vastly outperform paid advertising in the search engines without spending ANY money.
Driven by well-crafted and informative content, this marketing method is hands-down the most effective way to rank in search engines. Unlike the overpriced and under-performing practice of paid advertising, content marketing relies on valuable, user-centric content to attract organic traffic.
For Google, content is king. Google rewards websites that serve up valuable, relevant content to their users. Be it in the form of properly crafted blog posts, detailed articles, or product descriptions that truly resonate, content has the power to elevate a website seriously and quickly to a position of authority within its niche. Without spending a dime.
The essence of content marketing lies in its ability to establish your website as a trusted source of information. As online users search for information, well-optimized content acts as a beacon, guiding them to your virtual doorstep. They’re not bombarded with intrusive ads but rather welcomed by the answers to the questions they’re searching on in the search engines.
Unlike paid advertising, where your messages forcefully insert your ad into the user's view, content marketing positions your website as a helpful source of information that people are actually looking for.
In a world where users increasingly want authenticity and substance, content marketing is the ace up your digital marketing sleeve.
Again, Google loves valuable, well-optimized content. When you consistently produce high-quality content that aligns with the interests and needs of your target audience, search engines reward you with higher and higher organic rankings. That means far more visibility than the brief appearance of an overpriced PPC ad will give you, and ultimately far more traffic and customers.
Writing for content marketing can’t be done with AI; Google recognizes it and considers it spam. And you can't just write any old thing; there's a process. You need to actually learn how to do this.
